How To Prioritize Your Wish List When Buying a Home
When you are searching for a home, you need to keep your budget in mind. Yes, sometimes your real estate agent will be able to negotiate your buying price down, but that doesn't mean you should look for something that's too far over your budget. You need to think about what you actually NEED in a home, versus what you WANT in a home. For example, let's say you have:
TWO LARGER DOGS
You will likely need a larger back yard, that is fenced in order to properly care for them. This way they can go outside without having to be on a leash. They can play around and go potty without being walked every time. This may be considered an essential NEED for you.
TWO VEHICLES
You may be thinking that you NEED a garage for your vehicles, but is it necessarily a NEED or a WANT? Yes, a garage may be easier for you when it comes to having to start your car during those colder months, but, have you considered how much more expensive a house with a garage will be versus without? Does it fit within your budget? There may be more affordable alternatives, such as a house with an open carport or something of that nature. This is just food for thought when trying to prioritize your wish list and find a home within your budget.
A FAMILY OF FIVE
If you and your spouse have three children and you are looking for a home, you may have a certain number of bathrooms in mind. Perhaps you are wishing for three bathrooms, one for you, one for your spouse, and one for your kids to share. Is a three-bathroom house within your budget? If it really isn't, consider if this is something you really need or something you want. Can you and your spouse share a bathroom and can your kids share a bathroom and still be ok?
